To kick-start our attempt at anything “Beauty” on this blog, I decided to start with a trend that’s catching up fast these days – Beauty box! It is your personal bag of surprise delivered at your doorstep even when it’s not Christmas 😛
“Monthly subscription box” is a cost effective way to experience luxury beauty items before you invest your money in the full size products. The best thing about these boxes is that its a way to pamper your ownself. Who does not like a box fuull of cute beauty samples with promise of great skin/hair and what not 🙂
Some of the beauty boxes that are available in India are – The Nature’s Co Beauty Box, Envy Box, Fab Bag and Sugar Box. I decided to begin my stint with The ENVY BOX.
The ENVY BOX September 2015 arrived in a cute silver cardboard box. I felt super excited as the content are unknown but I had read rave reviews about the team that curates the boxes. Inside the box there were four products.
Catrice Ultimate Color Lip Colour (INR 610 for full size product)
When I first saw this lipstick, I was bowled over. I full sized product from Catrice. I have never used the barnd myself but have heard good things about it. The color I received is ‘300 Kiss me if you can’ and in the tube looked so my shade!! But hold your breath, coz as soon as I swatched it on my hands (and later lips) I was super disappointed. The lipstick is extremely sheer (despite claims of being highly pigmented!!) and leaves an unflattering frosty sheen which will not suit palest of Indian skin tones 🙁
Vana Mild Brew Hair Shampoo (INR 1500 for 115 ml)
I received a 40 ml sample of this paraben-free herbal shampoo. Envy box gives three items same in each box while fourth is different for everyone making it your unique box. Many people got Lyn glitter nail polish instead of this herbal shampoo (Frankly, I would have preferred that too :P)
Za Total Hydration Fresh Foamy Cleanser (INR 299 for 100g)
This face wash is the winner of vogue beauty awards 2015. Considering the fact that the cost of full size product is not much, they could have given a bigger sample. One can get such samples of this size free of cost from the store counters.
Davidoff Cool Water Shower Gel (INR 1800 for 150 ml)
This was the only saving grace of this month’s beauty box. I received a deluxe size sample of this refreshing shower gel.
Overall, I am not too happy with my #Envybox. It claims that it provides samples from luxury brands which is not the case for at least this month’s issue. Having said that, it’s still worth a try given the excitement of hidden joy that it brings with it 🙂
Have you tried beauty boxes? Which one is your favorite? Don’t forget to let me know in comments below.
